The driver was threatening the builder with posting screenshots of obscene photos and texts from women received by the builder's father on his social media profile. The police have identified the arrested driver as Amit Thopte.

A team comprising senior inspector Shankar Salunkhe and sub inspector Ashok Yevale of the Bibvewadi police laid a trap at a spot in the area, where Thopte had asked the builder to deliver the cash. Yevale told TOI, "The builder has several projects in Bibvewadi, Katraj, and adjoining areas." Thopte was further charged with threatening the builder with dire consequences if the money was not delivered.

Yevale added, "The builder's father had received some obscene messages. The driver took screenshots of this and transferred these images to his own cellphone. He then decided to cash in on the opportunity.

" The officer added, "The driver called up the builder and threatened to upload these screenshots on various sites and demanded money to settle the matter. Thopte also threatened that if his demand was not met, he would harm the builder's family and its reputation." According to Yevale, "Thopte had been working with the builder's family for the past few years and regularly visited their home.
