PRAYAGRAJ: Two persons, including a driver and his aide, were charred to death after their vehicle caught fire following a head-on collision with a speeding truck near Asni police outpost on the Fatehpur-Lucknow highway under the limits of Hussainganj police station in Fatehpur district late on Wednesday night. Upon being alerted, a team of Fatehpur police and fire officials rushed to the spot and doused the flames. Both vehicles were reduced to ashes.

The deceased trailer truck driver and cleaner were identified as Vinay Shukla (36) and Ramraj Yadav (28), residents of Khariba and Sahbapur, respectively. Police said the collision occurred when the trailer truck, on its way to Banda from Raebareli, collided head-on with a truck coming towards Fatehpur. The massive collision ignited a fire in both vehicles.

The driver and cleaner of the other truck escaped from the spot. The bodies were sent for post-mortem. Initial police investigation revealed that the driver of the trailer truck made an abortive attempt to overtake a vehicle and collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction.
