Mid-Buchanan softball punched its ticket to the Class 2 District 7 championship game with a 17-2 semifinal win over Plattsburg on Monday night. The Dragons wasted no time asserting themselves, dominating the first inning as only they could. Starting pitcher Kaylea Myers started off by striking out the side in the top of the first, with all three Plattsburg batters going down swinging.

To follow up the strong start from Myers, the Dragons brought the firepower on offense in the bottom of the opening inning. Sophomore Sophia Smith led off the inning with a solo home run to left centerfield. From there, the Dragons would add consistent offense through the first four innings to end the game early, and punch their ticket to the championship game on Tuesday night.

Smith finished the game 3-3 with a homerun, a triple and single. Mid-Buchanan will face West Platte, who took down two-seeded North Platte Panthers in the game prior to Mid-Buchanan and Plattsburg. The Dragons will look for their fourth consecutive district championship on Tuesday night, and their first under new head coach Regan Nash.
