But before she shredded the pounds, Sara revealed to The Mirror that after giving birth to her second child, health professionals issued her with a warning about the effect her weight was having on her health. The TV star, who is a mother to two boys aged 11 and eight, explained that if she didn't 'get a handle on her weight, she would have type 2 diabetes in 10 years.' She told the publication: 'Every year since I've had my blood glucose levels checked and every year I've seen that number creep up and up towards the pre-diabetic area.



'Then, two years ago, the doctor told me, 'This is getting a little bit out of hand, by this time next year you'll be pre-diabetic.' It was the kick up the bum I needed.' She increased her running, a habit she had picked up during lockdown, and challenged herself to achieve a personal best in the Great North Run half-marathon. She explained that she rarely looks at the scales to mark her milestones and that they are her last measure of health because she weighs more this year than last, but has dropped two dress sizes. The investor explained that despite her transformation, body positivity was never an issue for her and she is happy as a size 14 and does not aspire to be a size six or eight.

'I've got big stretch marks and my mum tum, but it's part of being human, and I know I'm healthy, and that's what matters to me,' she added. Earlier last year Sara revealed what lifestyle changes she has made to lose weight after dropping an impressive three dress sizes. Admitting she was 'mortified' while on the BBC show when she had to 'size up' her dresses, Sara has gone from a size 16 to a size 12.

The entrepreneur revealed she had cut out sugar and increased the amount of vegetables in her diet to help with her weight loss transformation. Speaking to Closer, she said: 'I had to size up in all my clothes [on Dragons' Den], and I was mortified. It was the biggest size I'd ever been wearing, and it really got to me.

Sara also revealed that she has stopped drinking alcohol, even when on a night out, to help maintain her incredible figure . She explained: 'During filming we go for dinner as a pack of Dragons, and Peter Jones has very nice, expensive taste in wine, but I feel so much better for cutting it out.

' Sara celebrated her 40th birthday in April last year and said for the milestone celebration she is glad she doesn't have to 'suck into Spanx' anymore. I've spent half my life sucking myself into Spanx, and now it's bloody lovely to put on a dress and not have two pairs on underneath!' It comes after Sara admitted she's 'had a tough couple of years' after it was revealed her company is £1million in the red.

Sara owns Crafter's Companion and in notes to the accounts for the year to March 2022, the directors describe the period as 'challenging.' Revealing how she has had to work 'harder than ever before', Sara explained how her business has been affected by the cost of living crisis and Brexit . Speaking to The Mirror , she said: 'I'm just going to be really honest, it has been a rough couple of years.

'I kind of don't want to shy away from that because I always feel, especially with my role on Dragons' Den, I've got that responsibility of being a bit of a role model.' Sara continued: 'I've had to work harder than I ever have in my life. We've been navigating all the other difficulties – the cost of living crisis, the raw materials cost increases, the energy crisis, war in, plus the effects of Brexit.

' In October 2023, the company's auditors said: 'The group and the company has suffered from reduced sales orders post year end and is in breach of banking covenants. 'As stated ..

. these events or conditions indicate that material uncertainty exists that may cast doubt on the group and company's ability to continue as a going concern.' A loan was taken out to prop up Crafter's Companion in July 2023.

Accounts show a loss for the year of £1.27 million , compared with the previous year's £231,000 profit. Sara committed to cutting out sugar to jumpstart her recovery.

Crafter's Companion was founded when she was a university student and spotted a gap in the market for an envelope-making tool which could be used by card makers. She designed the gadget and had a local joiner make them from MDF.

The company now employs more than 190 staff. Sara has won more than 25 business awards and in 2016 was recognised for services to the economy with an MBE.
