BISMARCK — The Minnesota State Moorhead football team ended its season on a high note with a 52-3 victory over UMary on Saturday in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game at MDU Resources Community Bowl. UMary scored first on Kevin Powell's 39-yard field goal in the first quarter. But the Dragons scored 24 points in the second quarter and the rout was on.
MSUM's Max Watson tied the game with a 36-yard field goal in the first minute of the second quarter. Dragons quarterback Jack Strand then threw 16-yard and 31-yard scoring passes to Brady Perryman sandwiched around a 2-yard scoring pass to Fynn Ridgeway. MSUM led 24-3 at halftime.
Strand threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Carson Elbert with 10:43 left in the third quarter, then threw an 8-yard scoring pass to Madden Thorson for a 38-3 lead. In the fourth quarter, Tommy Falk threw a 7-yard TD pass to Tyson Brandt and Owen Wiersma scored on a 4-yard run that capped a seven-play, 99-yard drive. Strand finished 19 of 36 for 244 yards and five touchdowns.
Falk hit 9 of 10 throws for 98 yards and a score, and Grant Warkenthien hit 2 of 3 passes for 53 yards. Madden Thorson had five catches for 92 yards and a TD, Perryman caught four balls for 68 yards and two TDs. Gage Florence had six catches for 59 yards.
Ridgeway led the Dragons on the ground with nine carries for 66 yards and Owen Wiersma had a 32-yard run and finished with 41 yards and a score on three carries. MSUM's Jack Johnson had eight tackles and Josiah Behm was in on six tackles. Jack Bungarden had five stops and intercepted a pass.
The Dragons wrapped up their season 6-4 in the NSIC and 6-5 overall..
