PELHAM, N.H. — A Dracut man is in custody awaiting arraignment after an investigation into a series of break-ins at Pelham Public Storage on Bridge Street led police to him and a haul of stolen items.

The Pelham Police said they apprehended 29-year-old Chase Bryant after multiple foot chases on Friday, aided by a resident of Lori Lane who called police after she spotted him in her backyard. Over the past couple weeks, police have been investigating a rash of break-ins at the self-storage facility, located at 70 Bridge St. Their investigation suggested that the suspect was entering through the woods behind the property rather than by vehicle.

At about 12:40 p.m. Friday, officers conducted a search of the woods behind the storage facility.

They soon found a man — later identified as Bryant — in a clearing surrounded by numerous items believed to be stolen. When officers tried to detain him, Bryant fled on foot. Despite a brief chase, officers lost sight of him as he crossed Bridge Street amid heavy traffic.

A perimeter was quickly set up, and additional officers were called in from the Salem, New Hampshire, and Dracut Police departments. The search continued with the help from the resident on Lori Lane, leading to another foot chase. Bryant was swiftly apprehended and taken into custody.

Bryant was initially transported to the Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua, New Hampshire for a precautionary evaluation. He was then booked at the Pelham Police Department. Bryant faces charges of burglary, receiving stolen property, felony possession of drugs, possession of burglarious tools, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, and resisting arrest.

Police said additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation progresses. Bryant was transferred to the Valley Street Jail in Manchester, New Hampshire, where he will await his arraignment slated for 8 a.m.
