She was the widow of the late Philip G. Hall of Graniteville, Westford.She was born in Greenfield, MA on August 10, 1925 to the late Avery Sr.



and Rose (Herzig) Harrington. She had lived in Westford for over 50 years.She was a graduate of the Orange High School and the Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing.

She also received a B.S. Degree from New York University and a M.

A. Degree from Columbia University. After a few years of hospital nursing in Washington, D.

C., New York, Sarasota, FL, followed by Public Health Nursing in New York City and school nursing in Amherst, MA, she came to Westford to become the Director of Nursing at the Nashoba Associated Boards of Health in Ayer.After seven years there, she joined the Massachusetts Department of Public Health as a Public Health Nursing Advisor and then was appointed the District Health Officer of the Northeast Regional Office from which she retired in 1988.

In her retirement years, she volunteered for the Cameron Senior Center as a Shine Counselor, the Fuel Assistance Applications for Westford residences and coordinated for the senior tax rebate programs. She also served for several years as a member of the town’s finance committee and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Council on Aging. She was a member of the Board of Directors of the Public Health Museum of Massachusetts since its inception in 1994.

She was a member of several professional organizations when active with her profession. She is also a 60 plus year member of Mt. Toby Chapter of the OES.

She loved to travel at home and abroad and especially loved Windjamming in the Caribbean, which she did several times with family and friends.She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Ann of Erving and Elizabeth of Florida as well as several nieces and nephews and their extended families.She was predeceased by her sister, Gladys Powling and her husband, Merle and her brothers, Avery Harrington, Jr.

, Calvin Harrington and Robert Harrington and his wife, Gloria.Relatives and friends are invited to Dorothy’s Celebration of Life on Saturday, October 19, 2024 from 10 until 11 AM at the WESTFORD HEALY FUNERAL HOME, 57 N Main Street, Westford. Her Funeral Service will be celebrated immediately following in the funeral home at 11 AM.

Burial in Fairview Cemetery, Westford. All are invited to join the family for a luncheon in the United Methodist Church Hall afterwards. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy’s memory to the United Methodist Church of Westford, ATTN: Financial Secretary, 10 Church Street, Westford, MA 01886 or to Friends of Cameron Senior Center, 20 Pleasant Street, Westford, MA 01886.
