As autumn arrives, Dorchester County Parks and Recreation invites the community to dive into a lineup of events and activities at Ashley River Park, Rosebrock Park and Davis-Bailey Park. Here’s a glimpse of what’s in store this fall: Family Friendly Fun and Learning Opportunities The Homeschool Park Co-Op/Enrichment Program kicks off on Fridays through Dec. 13.
It offers children ages 5-12 a dynamic mix of STEM projects, crafts, storytelling and imaginative play. The program runs from 10 a.m.
-2 p.m., encouraging group interaction and hands-on exploration.
Rosebrock and Davis-Bailey Parks introduce TRACK Trails, which feature self-guided adventures like “Types of Trees” and “Birds of the Woods and Wetlands,” designed to transform hikes into interactive experiences. Children can register their hikes on KidsinParks.com to earn prizes.
For nature lovers, a Family Fishing Clinic, led by SCDNR instructor Tom Lindenmayer, is from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, Nov.
9. It provides a hands-on tutorial in fishing fundamentals, including knot-tying and casting. Families can also enjoy a Caribbean Fest Steel Drum Concert the same day featuring the Dorchester District 2 bands from 10 a.
m.-4 p.m.
Youth-Centered Events Kids can delve into local wildlife with “Tiny Trekkers: Reptiles” on Nov. 12, while STEM Activities by Trident Technical College introduce youngsters to engaging science concepts later that day. For dinosaur enthusiasts, the DINOVEMBER event that same afternoon will feature a special library partnership to explore the world of reptiles and dinosaurs.
Other options for youth include “Nature's Art” environmental installations on Nov. 19 and “Understanding Our Impact” on Nov. 21, teaching kids about sustainability and environmental stewardship.
Community Wellness and Outdoor Engagement “Walk with a Doc” returns every second Saturday, offering a chance to exercise, socialize and gain valuable health insights from local physician Dr. Asia McDonald. “Happy Hour Yoga” and “Sunday Morning Yoga” also provide outdoor sessions at Ashley River Park for all experience levels.
Annual passes are available for $40 for county residents ($80 for non-residents), allowing access to these events and regular park entry. Visit the Dorchester County Parks and Recreation website for more information or to register for activities..
