The success of the Fiji men’s netball team at the 2024 Men’s Netball Nations Series in Singapore has opened doors to other opportunities. Fiji created history on Sunday as they stunned top favourites Australia 55-54 in a match worthy of a final. It was historic in all sense for the Fijian side as it was also their first international competition since 2004.
“Netball Fiji is very proud of this achievement in the Men’s space and the fantastic come back in that final game to win in the dying seconds speaks volumes of the fight, hard work and sacrifices they made to get that win. “This was all new to them, seven days of intense games. They showed resilience and strength and faith in each other and their processes.
Their coach obviously did a lot of work in the mental part of his training to allow them to be patient and come back to win,” Netball Fiji president RubyAnn Sorovaki said. Those 20 years of commitment and hope saw them soar to victory in Singapore signaling a positive future for men’s netball in the country. “We have already received an invite to return to Singapore next year and defend our title and an invite to participate in another tournament closer to home.
This is what this men’s team have done, they have opened a new playing field for boys and men interested in the sport. The support from Fiji and around the world has been immense and this is taken the game and the sport here to another level,” she added. Netball Fiji is planning a thanksgiving service and a lunch to thank the team and management for their achievement.
