Kamal Haasan Decided to remove the numerous honorifics associated with him thanks to his fans and well-wishers when he made an emotional post on November 11. For a long time, there have been sayings like Ulaganayagan (World's Actor) and Aandavaram (a God) for him and now he, instead of using these shalls, wants to be called ‘Kamal Haasan’, ‘Kamal’ or ‘KH’. Actor Ajith Kumar had indeed, a similar opinion where he also asked his fans not to address him as Thala and only as his name or his initials AK.
In his statement, in fact, Haasan encouraged that these titles should be taken as parts of love and affection. “It has been a humbling experience for me every time I am called with adorable titles such as Ulaganayagan. Such appreciating views from the people, and such recognition from colleagues and fans will always be very humbling,” he penned.
“I am just a child in this art, every of my work is a stepping stone for my learning and growth. Cinema does not have a single owner; it’s how many creative, technical, and audiences gather to make it what it is, a collection of many flavors, many perspectives, and many changing stories of the world,” he said. Asserting that cinema is bigger than any individual and that he remained a student, renowned actor Kamal Haasan on Monday announced his decision to renounce titles such as 'Ulaga Nayagan' (universal hero) bestowed on him and said he may be addressed by his name, or simply KH.
Haasan, also the president of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), a party he founded in 2018, said he had always felt a deep sense of gratitude over being bestowed with endearing titles. "Such accolades, given by the people and recognised by esteemed colleagues and admirers, have always been humbling, and I have been genuinely moved by your love in conferring them upon me," the actor said in a statement. Kamal Hasan is reported to star in Mani Ratnam’s film Thug Life which is anticipated to come out in June in 2025.
