A Donora man is accused of assaulting and threatening Washington and Washington & Jefferson College police officers after he allegedly followed a woman a few blocks from the city onto the college campus Thursday afternoon. City police were dispatched to 90 W. Chestnut St.
when a man called 911 to report that another man was trying to get into his wife’s vehicle while she was placing her child in the car. The man, who was identified as 42-year-old Michael R. Tirpak III, apparently followed the woman to the 400 block of East Chestnut Street on the college’s campus, where her husband was nearby and he called for help, according to court documents.
Police officers handcuffed Tirpak while they were investigating the incident and took him into a nearby patrol car, but he started resisting arrest and “began kicking his way out” of the officer’s grip, police said. Other officers tried to help, but Tirpak continued to resist by attempting to kick them, prompting police to use shackles on his legs to get him in the back of the police vehicle, court documents allege. Tirpak was taken to the city police station for processing, and he allegedly threatened to beat up the officers who had arrested him and said he would “kill them,” according to court documents.
Investigators did not say whether Tirpak knew the woman or what prompted him to allegedly follow her several blocks to the college campus. Tirpak was arraigned Friday morning by District Judge Kelly Stewart on charges of felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and simple assault. He is being held at the Washington County jail on $100,000 bond.
