Donald Trump appoints former Apprentice producer Mark Burnett as Special Envoy to Britain

President-elect Donald Trump has appointed the creator of The Apprentice as a Special Envoy to the UK. British TV producer Mark Burnett, 64, is tapped to fill the role. The British producer has worked on popular reality tv shows such as Survivor, Shark Tank, Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader, and The Voice.

“It is my great honor to appoint Mark Burnett as the Special Envoy to the United Kingdom ," Trump wrote on Truth Social. “With a distinguished career in television production and business, Mark brings a unique blend of diplomatic acumen and international recognition to this important role.” Trump rejects government funding bill just days before shutdown, forcing new deal Elon Musk slams Washington Commanders NFL stadium proposal in government spending bill He went on to say Burnett was known for "creating and producing some of the biggest shows in Television History".



Burnett helped bring Trump into the homes of millions of Americans in the 2000s and 2010s with The Apprentice. Trump hosted the competition for 14 seasons between 2004 and 2017. Burnett confirmed the appointment in a statement.

“I am truly honored to serve The United States of America and President Trump as his Special Envoy to the United Kingdom.” Burnett will be the first Special Envoy to Britain. According to the President-elect he will have his hands full with an array of responsibilities.

"Mark will work to enhance diplomatic relations, focusing on areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment opportunities, and cultural exchanges," Trump said. In October 2016, Burnett and his wife, actress Roma Downey, distanced themselves from Trump, criticizing the "hatred, division and misogyny that has been a very unfortunate part of his campaign". Trump has already nominated businessman Warren Stephens to serve as the US ambassador to the UK.
