Dominican singer Rubby Pérez dead among others in nightclub incident, reports

Rubby Pérez died at 69 years old after a ceiling at a Dominican Republic nightclub collapsed . The incident happened in the early hours of April 8 at the Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo, leaving at least 44 people dead. Those in the building were attending a performance by Pérez.

The collapse left dozens of others injured, with over 160 people reported to have sustained injuries. Among those who died were the saxophonist performing alongside Pérez, as well as the singer, according to multiple reports. The merengue star was trapped under debris following the collapse of the roof.



Pérez was known as the "loudest voice of merengue." Fans of the artist are mourning the death of one of their favorite merengue stars. One person on X, formerly known as Twitter, wrote in Spanish: "The best advice on how to deal with heartbreak was given to me by Rubby Perez in the a cappella intro to his song - Sobreviviré - from his album 'Volando Alto.

' RIP LEGEND." Another person wrote: "Today, amidst so much turbulence, we bid farewell to our merengue glory, who in his final minutes raised his voice to heaven. Rest in peace, our great Rubby Pérez.

Your legacy and your good deeds will live on forever." A third person posted: "God!! Rubby Pérez, your music gave us Venezuelans so much joy. My condolences to his family and the Dominican Republic.
