Dolphins star Tyreek Hill said before the season that setting a goal of 2,000 yards would be "selfish" after he came up short of the mark in 2023. At the midway point of the season, even getting to 1,000 might not be easy — and a wrist injury could be why. Hill has spent the season battling a wrist ailment, spending the days leading up to Monday night's game against the Rams listed as "questionable" to play.
He did suit up and even scored a touchdown for Miami, but his impact simply hasn't been what it was in his first two seasons in South Florida. After admitting the injury is just something he will have to play through for the remainder of the season, Hill revealed his infamous run-in with police before the Dolphins' season opener actually made the issue worse than it already was. Here's what Hill had to say about the injury and how he aggravated it while being detained in September.

"He said it first started in training camp, but then he said it got re-aggravated when he was arrested right before the opening game of the season," ESPN's Lisa Salters reported before Monday's game. "He said that that’s where the further damage was done." Hill wasn't formally arrested, but he was handcuffed and placed on the ground before police issued two citations following a traffic stop.
The way police physically handled Hill was the subject of controversy after body-cam video of the incident was released. Hill did look like himself in the hours after his detainment, showcasing blazing speed in a win over the Jaguars. He finished the Dolphins' season opener with 130 yards and a touchdown, still his only 100-yard game of the season.
With Tua Tagovailoa missing a chunk of the season, though, Hill hasn't been as effective ever since. While he criticized police for their use of force against him, Hill didn't indicate in the days after the September detainment that he was injured during the interaction. Hill's attorneys suggested weeks later that they might take legal action against the Miami-Dade Police Department, but no lawsuit has been filed.
If the Dolphins want to have any chance of storming back after a 2-6 start and making the playoffs, they're likely going to need Hill to be at his very best with Tagovailoa healthy once again. The situation became chaotic when Hill initially refused to roll his window down, and the Dolphins star was pulled out of his car by police. Here's the complete body camera footage from the incident: The incident conjured all kinds of emotions among Dolphins players and coaches, and two of Hill's teammates were also briefly detained when they tried to mediate after seeing what was happening. As it turns out, Miami's season might have changed in a way few could've expected as a result of Hill's detainment.
