DOJ – The Department of Justice assured Vice Pres. Sara Duterte that the investigation will be fair despite her absence at the probe of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). Several issues surround the Office of the Vice President (OVP) as well as Vice Pres.

Duterte aired “threats” against Pres. Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez. The Vice President claimed there was no active threat in her statement.

However, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte skipped the NBI hearing schedule not just once but twice. She skipped the December 11 hearing for a lunch party with the media at the OVP headquarters in Mandaluyong City.

Only the legal counsel of Vice Pres. Duterte arrived at the NBI headquarters and submitted a letter. Through the letter, the Vice President denied the accusation against her.

The NBI refused to accept the letter submitted by the camp of Duterte as the sworn statement of the Vice President. Following her absence at the hearing, Duterte assured that she will not hide or leave the Philippines if an arrest warrant will be released against her. Aside from the NBI, the Department of Justice or DOJ also assured to look into the statement of Vice Pres.

DOJ Undersecretary Jesse Andres also stressed wonder on why the Vice President does not want to be a part of the process. He stressed that sending a letter to the NBI is not enough as notarized affidavits have to be submitted. “Due process is being afforded her.

I do not understand why she does not want to be part of the process which could possibly exculpate her or get her out of criminal liability,” he said. Based on the report , the DOJ assured that the investigation will be fair whether or not there is a need to file a case. He stressed that the reform of the justice department in the recent years has focused on human rights.
