Farnworth dog walkers have been too scared to walk their dogs in a popular park after suspected rat poison was found there. On Saturday (February 15), a dog walker said they found a large number of pellets near the entrance of Farnworth Central Park. A ward councillor said the reports were 'worrying'.

One local woman, who did not wish to be named, said she used to walk her dog there all the time until the poison was found. She said: “We can’t let him off the lead – we’ve had to find other places to walk.

She said: “Local residents are very concerned after this suspected rat poison has been found at Farnworth Park. “It is very worrying that it has been left out in the open like that, especially in an area where many people have pets and where many walk their dogs.
“I would strongly advise against residents leaving rat poison at the park or in the street as it poses a serious risk to health such as children who just touch and pick things up and it can be harmful to dogs and cats as it’s a toxic substance. “It’s also illegal to just drop rat poison down in public places.” The police have been contacted for comment.
