In an exclusive interview with Zoom, musical band Indian Ocean's Rahul Ram spoke about how Bollywood takes music from different corners of the country and uniquely presents it. He reacted to people believing music is all about Bollywood. Rahul Ram is a famous music personality and a bass guitarist who worked in several Hindi movies.

Renowned musical band, Indian Ocean, has been entertaining melophiles for several decades. Recently, they performed in Mumbai at Phoenix Marketcity’s Dublin Square for their fans. Rahul Ram, the bass guitarist of Indian Ocean, spoke to Zoom exclusively about music.

The bass guitarist said, “Bollywood used to be a huge percentage of the music that sold but there was always other music. Those who have limited knowledge of music associated it with Bollywood.



” He added, “Bollywood takes music from all over India and presents their version of it. That doesn’t change ghazal, qawwali and other folk music. That existed before Bollywood.

After joining the Indian Ocean band in 1991, he went to America to learn to play the Alto saxophone.

Rahul has been associated with Bollywood for many years. In 2015, Indian Ocean composed the music for Vicky Kaushal’s Masaan and Rahul collaborated with writer Varun Grover and Swanand Kirkire for two songs and an original composition Bhor. Rahul, along with Indian Ocean member Asheem Chakrabarty, sang the song Yaara Maula in Anurag Kashyap’s film Gulaal based on student politics.

Recently, Rahul was a part of Vishal Bhardwaj’s Khufiya and Shoojit Sircar’s Gulabo Sitabo. His other projects include Black Friday, Bhoomi, Yeh Mera India, Peepli Live, and Satyagraha along Sarileru Neekevvaru. Rahul also acted in A R Rahman's movie, 99 Songs.
