Surat: A doctor, Shamji Baldaniya , has been admitted to the ICU of a private hospital with severe chemical burns after his sister's brother-in-law threw acid on him. Godadara police have arrested Dhiru Kavad, the older brother of the victim's sister's husband for the crime. The accused believed Baldaniya had been fuelling the feud between his wife and his brother's wife.

Kavad has been charged with causing serious hurt and house-trespass in order to commit an offence punishable by death. In-charge Zone 2 deputy police commissioner Pinakin Parmar said: "Madhu is married to Dhiru Kavad and Gita is married to his younger brother. Gita is Baldaniya's sister.

Madhu and Gita have been feuding for the last eight years. Dhiru thought Baldaniya had been fuelling the feud. He then went to Baldaniya's clinic at about 8pm on Thursday and threw acid on him.

" Baldaniya has been admitted to the ICU due to the burns on his eyes, face, neck, hands, legs and other parts of his body. Sources said Baldaniya has suffered serious injuries to his eyes. According to police, Dhiru's son has a serious disease, for which Dhiru spent a significant amount on his treatment.

A few years ago, his younger brother started living separately with his wife, Gita. Baldaniya many times helped his sister Gita out financially. As the wives had been quarrelling for over eight years, and Dhiru thought Baldaniya was fuelling it, he went to Baldaniya's clinic and committed the crime.

Dhiru works for a diamond unit in Surat. He took a half-day on Thursday and went to a shop in the diamond market to buy acid at 5pm, after which he went to Baldaniya's clinic..
