There are plenty of viral weight loss hacks that circulate online – but a professional doctor is here to tell you that one of them actually works. Dr Idz took to TikTok to say the chia seed trend is actually an effective way to burn fat. He provided his medical expertise, as well as research to back it up.

In a video, he explained: "Chia seeds are high in fibre, and fibre has been consistently shown to help you lose weight. It makes you full, doesn't contain calories and reduces appetite. "Chia seeds are mainly a soluable fibre so, when you mix it with water, it becomes a viscous-like gel, and this slows down the digestion of food, and makes you more full.

"Many studies have linked soluable fibre with a lower level of body fat but, whether fibre loses more belly fat than the calorie restriction it gives, we're not sure. But the point it still valid, because you do lose belly fat." The doctor also highlighted the numerous benefits of fibre, the satiating effects of water and the health-enhancing properties of cinnamon, while recommending a drizzle of honey for natural sweetness and improved flavour.

Overall, he said the drink could help you stay fuller for longer. The clip, which has been viewed more than 300,000 times, has fuelled debate among viewers. Some immediately called attention to the amount of calories in chia seeds, which are a component of the proposed drink.

One viewer commented: "Nice to hear someone who actually knows medicine, nutrition. Thanks." Another shared their own experience, saying: "Yes.

I have chia seeds with coconut milk, and it bangs!" However, a third person noted: "Okay, but chia seeds do contain calories." provides information supporting the weight loss benefits of chia seeds, noting that they may boost satiety and reduce food consumption, as evidenced by research involving 24 individuals. Participants felt fuller and ate less after incorporating either 0.

33 oz (7 g) or 0.5 oz (14 g) of chia seeds mixed with yogurt into their breakfast. Although chia seeds alone may not directly lead to significant weight loss, including them as part of a balanced and healthy diet could contribute positively to weight management goals.
