Anthony Leonard Platt, commonly known as Unk, has tragically passed away at the age of 43 as confirmed by Variety . The news was announced by the American DJ and rapper’s wife on Facebook as she wrote, “Please respect me and my family. I just lost my husband and my kids just lost their father.
Our life will never be the same. I LOVE YOU ANTHONY FOREVER.” He initially rose to success with hits like 2 Step and Walk It Out in the early 2000s.
His record label, Big Oomp Records, also made a statement concerning his death, writing, “It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that we announce the passing of a true ATL legend, Anthony Platt better known as ‘DJ Unk’. On behalf of Big Oomp Records and the BOR Family, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the countless fans who were touched by his artistry and spirit.” Along with the tribute, they shared an image of the rapper smiling while standing in front of a crowd.
The music label added that the DJ was “not just a legendary DJ, rapper and producer, but a true cornerstone of our label”, claiming “the imprint that he left globally will be cherished forever.” They concluded that he “left an indelible mark on the industry, and his legacy will continue to inspire artists, DJs, and fans alike for years to come” and, “His energy, creativity, and commitment to the craft will never be forgotten.".
