Disturbing dashcam footage has emerged of a toddler wandering out all alone onto a busy Adelaide road. A motorist had just crossed through a busy Salisbury Hwy intersection in Salisbury in the city’s northern suburbs when they spotted the little girl walking across the bike lane onto the two-lane thoroughfare just before 3.30pm on January 3, 2023.

Know the news with the 7NEWS app: Download today Cars in both lanes of the highway can be seen screeching to a halt in footage obtained by 7NEWS, as the child stops momentarily in the middle of the highway and turns to face them. Two men can be seen running from their cars towards the child, as she continues her attempt to cross the road.
As one of the concerned motorists reaches the little girl and scoops her up, a man can be seen emerging from the driveway of a nearby block of units, taking the toddler and carrying her back inside the property. The terrifying incident occurred just two hours before the highway would have been bustling with peak-hour traffic. The government-supported Raising Children Network warns parents : “Young children are particularly at risk in driveways and yards.
“Toddlers and preschoolers might not yet realise that cars are dangerous. “They can also move quietly and quickly. They get absorbed in whatever they’re doing, including chasing a ball behind a car.
They often don’t stop, even if you ask them to. “Separate your child’s play areas from driveways.” It suggested fencing off driveways or garages where possible, so children are unable to run towards the road.
Until the age of at least 11, children require active adult supervision to safely navigate driveways, cars, roads and carparks, the network said..
