The cast members of ‘Girls Will Be Girls’, Kani Kusruti, Preeti Panigrahi, and Kesav Binoy Kirom are joined by actor-producer Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal to talk about the film. “I personally really feel for Anila’s (Kusruti) character,” Panigrahi says, “and through this film I’ve found a lot of respect and apology from my side to my mother.” ‘Girls Will Be Girls’, set in a boarding school, touches upon the way young girls are policed for their clothes and their behaviour.
Speaking about the same, Chadha says, “Across the world, the onus of responsibility lies with the girls to cover up. And it really doesn't matter what you're wearing. The scene (of a conversation between a teacher and Panigrahi’s character Mira) also goes to highlight how misogyny can be so internalised that those words can come out of a woman's mouth.
” Kusruti goes on to talk about how her upbringing was different than most and how her parents prepared her to ‘negotiate with patriarchy’ while being supportive. Speaking about the decision of opting for a direct-to-digital release for ‘Girls Will Be Girls', Chadha says, “The audience just wants to watch a good film, whether they want to spend that Rs 500 and watch it in the cinema or watch it at home. They're paying us with their time.
” “The audience has matured sooner than the industry,” she adds. Watch the video for more. (At The Quint, we question everything.
