WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Dying For Sex. The much-anticipated series Dying For Sex has landed on Disney+, with viewers diving into the poignant yet provocative real-life stories of Molly Kochan and Nikki Boyer. Disney+ unveiled its latest offering, the eight-part comedy-drama Dying For Sex, on Friday, April 4, chronicling the true journey of Molly Kochan, brought to life by five-time Oscar nominee Michelle Williams.

Adapted from the popular Wanderly podcast, the series delves into the recordings made by Molly before her hospitalisation alongside her best friend Nikki Boyer, depicted by Jenny Slate in the show, back in late 2018. Molly's frank discussions about her numerous casual sexual encounters after being diagnosed with terminal cancer are a focal point of the series, with her boldly stating in one episode: "What are [they] going to do to me? Kill me?" she quipped. "I'm dying.

" During her time in the hospital, Molly penned her memoir, Screw Cancer: Becoming Whole, which was published posthumously, together with the release of the Dying For Sex podcast. Throughout her battle with cancer, Nikki remained a steadfast presence, even holding Molly's hand as she drew her last breath in 2019. The bond between Molly and Nikki, who also took on the role of executive producer for the Disney+ adaptation, dates back to their days at a Los Angeles drama school in 2000.

In an interview with The Times, Nikki reminisced how Molly was once a "wallflower" while she herself sought the spotlight; however, their friendship flourished after a drama teacher paired them up, setting the stage for their enduring connection. Nikki was present when Molly met her husband, who she spent 15 years with, but whose real identity has been kept private and is referred to as Steve in the show. Molly's life took a dramatic turn in 2005 when she discovered a lump in her breast, but her doctor initially dismissed the possibility of cancer due to her young age of 33.

As a result, she didn't receive a diagnosis until six years later. Molly underwent a series of treatments, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, a double mastectomy, and breast reconstruction. However, in 2015, she began experiencing hip pain, which was later revealed to be a result of the cancer spreading to her bones, rendering it terminal.

This diagnosis prompted Molly to leave her 15-year marriage and embark on a journey of self-discovery, which she referred to as a "sexual quest" to explore her desires and preferences in the bedroom. The idea for the podcast was born during a lunch meeting between the two friends in 2018, where Molly openly shared her experiences, including a passionate kiss with a man at a doughnut shop. Nikki revealed to Time that Molly's exploration was about reclaiming her body and finding control.

She stated, "When Molly felt out of control, she did really, really fun stuff with men." Nikki added, "[Molly] wanted to fall in love, and she did; she fell in love with herself." Nikki concluded by saying, "So whatever is on your list of things to do before you die-you better get started.
