Disney has removed the untitled “Star Wars” movie it had set for release on December 18th 2026. The title has seemingly been pulled from the calendar altogether, rather than delayed. The recently announced “Ice Age 6” will instead take over that pre-Xmas weekend slot.
Multiple “Star Wars” films have been announced in recent years but so far the only new one to make it into production has been “The Mandalorian and Grogu” film which is still on track for a May 2026 release. That December title was suspected to be the Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy directed film unofficially dubbed “New Jedi Order” which would see Daisy Ridley returning as Rey. After screenwriter Steven Knight departed from the project last month, its fate became unclear.
The recent announcement that Simon Kinberg is penning a whole new “Star Wars” trilogy, one that like has Rey as a key character, has raised the obvious question as to whether “New Jedi Order” will still proceed. Other films, including ones from directors James Mangold, Patty Jenkins and Shawn Levy, all remain in development. “Star Wars” has its new “Skeleton Crew” TV series arriving next month and a second season of “Andor” in April 2025.
