The saga continues. To add to the constant confusion around the “Star Wars” franchise , Disney has removed an untitled “ Star Wars ” movie it had earmarked for a December 2026 release. Disney has instead replaced it with.
..” Ice Age 6.
” It now opens in theaters December 18, 2026. No word on which of the seemingly dozens of potential “Star Wars” movies it was supposed to be in that release date. Still on the calendar for May 2026 is “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” which will be the first big screen “Star Wars” movie since “The Rise of Skywalker” opened in 2019.
Another “Star Wars” untitled movie still has a placeholder date for December 2027. It was also reported that Simon Kinberg would be writing and producing a new trilogy of “Star Wars” films, so the advent of those could have thrown off the prior plans for any other standalone movies. Among those in the works is one directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (“Ms.
Marvel”), which is meant to be the return of Daisy Ridley’s Rey to the franchise. There’s also another from Taika Waititi and another from Dave Filoni both in the works. But because Obaid-Chinoy’s movie recently lost a pair of writers, it’s possible Rey’s services are up for grabs and could be headed to Kinberg’s films instead.
The Force is strong with this one. Disney just last week announced that “Ice Age 6” was in production, with Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Queen Latifah, Denis Leary, and Simon Pegg all returning to the voice cast. The last proper “Ice Age” film with the full cast was in 2016, though there was a spinoff movie, “The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild,” released in 2022.
