Ryan Murphy's Doctor Odyssey has been met with mixed reviews due to its 'incredibly stupid' storyline. However, fans believe they have uncovered a hidden plot twist in the show. The medical drama features Joshua Jackson as Max Bankman, a doctor on board the luxury cruise ship The Odyssey.
Alongside his medical team, Bankman is responsible for dealing with unique medical emergencies and navigating blossoming relationships within the team. The cast also boasts Phillipa Soo (Hamilton) as nurse Avery Morgan, Sean Teale (Skins) as nurse Tristan Silva, and Don Johnson (Miami Vice) as Captain Robert Massey. Disney+ has released the first four episodes of the series, with more set to be released every Thursday.
Viewers are already sharing intriguing theories about the show. Following its October premiere, viewers criticised the drama's plot for being "incredibly stupid." One Reddit user shared: "This show is incredibly stupid, but I love it.
" However, some viewers believe there's more to the plot than initially appears, after noticing what they think is a clue in something the captain says in the second episode, reports the Manchester Evening News . In a Reddit post titled 'Let's take this theory a step farther', one fan suggested the cruise ship was actually a sort of purgatory. They speculated: "The Doc and everyone else on the ship are stuck in between life and death.
When the doc and his crew save a life, that person passes on. "In a recap before Episode 2, they edit together the Captain literally saying, 'The ship is a dream. It's your job to keep everyone alive.
' " A second chimed in with alternative theories, and wrote: "Your theory is supported by many, some propose the doctor is in a Covid coma or purgatory." Further avid watchers have noticed odd objects aboard the cruise ship, speculating they could point to an undisclosed storyline. One remarked: "Does anyone else think it's weird that they have fireplaces on a cruise ship? Seems like an unnecessary fire risk.
" Another concurred, adding: "And I think there were candles when Capt. was having dinner with Shania Twain? Many aspects of this show are absolutely fantasy." Linking these props to a theme of the afterlife within the plot, another viewer suggested: "It's because this is heaven.
" Doctor Odyssey is streaming now on Disney+ with new episodes dropping every Thursday.
