Discovery Federal Credit Union recently made a donation of $2,000 to Breast Cancer Support Services (BCSS) of Berks County. The credit union’s donation was made in conjunction with International Credit Union Day, and reinforced Discovery’s commitment to the cooperative principle of “Concern for Community,” the company said in a press release. “Our cooperative structure allows us to prioritize community needs, and International Credit Union Day was a wonderful occasion to demonstrate that commitment,” Michele Smith, CEO of Discovery Federal Credit Union, said in a statement.

“Partnering with BCSS aligns with our mission to support the well-being of our community, and we are honored to help further their work here in Berks County.” International Credit Union Day, Oct. 17, is observed annually by credit unions worldwide to recognize the unique role they play in improving financial well-being and strengthening communities, the company said.

To mark the day, Discovery FCU invited Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks representatives to its Spring Township branch, where they spent some time sharing information with credit union members about local support resources for those affected by breast cancer. In addition, members enjoyed refreshments and a prize wheel, “bringing the community together in a spirit of celebration and solidarity,” the company said in the release. Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County is a nonprofit organization that provides “hope, information, and support” to individuals and families in Berks County affected by breast cancer.
