A faction within the Bayelsa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has accused Governor Douye Diri of benefiting immensely from President Bola Tinubu’s administration without publicly declaring his support. The leader of the pro-Wike group, George Turnah, stated this yesterday during the inauguration of the NEW Associates at the Church of God Mission Camp Ground at Igbogene in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital. Turnah, who is also the PDP zonal publicity secretary in the South-South, called on Diri to urgently state his position ahead of the 2027 elections.

He noted that while states like Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Edo have openly aligned with President Tinubu, Bayelsa has remained silent. “Diri is the greatest beneficiary of Tinubu. Cross River has declared, Akwa Ibom has declared.

Delta has declared, and of course, Edo is already there. Rivers State, something is going on, but Bayelsa, we don’t know,” he said. Turnah warned that if Diri decides to back any political movement outside of Tinubu’s camp, they would continue to align with Wike, who they described as the number one supporter of the president.

He urged Diri not to delay any further in making his political stance clear, stressing that Bayelsa must not be left behind in the new political realignments shaping the South-South region. The coordinator of Non-Indigenes of the New Associates, Hon. Promise Chukwu, has described the minor disruption that occurred during the group’s mega rally as unfortunate but commended supporters for remaining calm and not allowing the situation to escalate.

He urged all members, especially non-indigenes, to stay focused and united as the group continues to mobilize support for the future. “We came out to show our support peacefully, and no act of provocation will stop us from standing behind the leadership and vision we believe in,” he added. We’ve got the edge.
