Dig into your city memories and help identify these photographs

Let's call this contest "CityKWiz" — with the three upper-case letters representing the cities of Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo.

From time to time, Flash from the Past tests readers with unidentified photographs from the four townships ...

Township Teasers is the nickname. This time, let’s focus on the region’s three cities and for lack of a clever, alliterative name, just title it: CityKWiz — with the three upper-case letters representing the cities. Four photos will appear this week and next.

Once all eight have appeared, send me your guesses as to which city each image belongs and your thoughts about what is going on, or what the photo shows. I suggest that if you are seeing this in the print newspaper that you retain the page or, on the web, bookmark it. That will help you next week when all eight have appeared and you prepare your entry.

There will be one prize awarded for the most correct guesses: your choice of my 2002 book “Kitchener (Berlin) 1880-1960” or the 2018 “Flash from the Past” book. If there is a tie, the deciding factor will be the best backup information on the images. Please note: Do not send any guesses in until the second set of four photos has appeared on March 29 — then you have until noon on April 1.

Answers and the winner’s name will appear on April 12. This contest is not run by The Record; it’s just my way to allow readers to share some of their historical memories and for me to learn more of our local history. Each week there will be at least one Waterloo, one Cambridge and one Kitchener photo.

That’s all the fine print: I hope you have fun with CityKWiz! Photo 2 Photo 3 Photo 4.
