Bengaluru: The Federation of Karnataka State Lorry Owners and Agents Association Saturday announced an indefinite strike starting April 15, demanding the rollback of the state govt's diesel price hike, cessation of toll fee collection for state highways, and the removal of checkposts. The decision was made following a meeting held on Saturday by the federation. GR Shanmugappa, president of the association, said the increase in sales tax on diesel by Rs 5 over the last 10 months has placed financial burden on truck owners.

He argued the rise in diesel prices could lead to a decline in revenue for the state, as truck owners from other states may choose to refuel outside Karnataka to avoid higher costs. The federation is also protesting toll fees collected at 18 locations across the state for using state highways. Shanmugappa claimed no other state charges toll fees for state highways, and in Karnataka, vehicles are required to pay tolls at locations where minimal infrastructure work has been completed.

He questioned why truck owners should pay toll fees on top of motor vehicle tax and rising diesel prices. The federation also expressed concerns over continued operation of checkposts along the state's borders, especially in light of the shift to digital transactions in logistics..
