Nitesh Tiwari’s grand adaptation of Ramayan remains a focal point in Indian cinema, drawing attention for its massive scale, stellar cast, and intriguing casting developments. Featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, and Sunny Deol as Hanuman, the project has now revealed that Jaideep Ahlawat – known for his gripping roles in Raazi, An Action Hero, and Paatal Lok – was approached to portray Vibhishan, Ravana’s virtuous brother. According to a report by ETimes, Sources indicate Jaideep was enthusiastic about joining the mythological epic, but had to decline due to scheduling conflicts and prior commitments.
The production team was keen to have him for the significant role, but the timing didn’t work out. A post shared by Jaideep Ahlawat (@jaideepahlawat) Notably, Jaideep wasn’t the only actor considered for Vibhishan; last year, rumors swirled that Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi was in discussions, though those talks also fell apart. The film’s production is moving forward in stages, with some actors yet to start shooting.
Recently, Sai Pallavi was seen filming her scenes as Sita, and Yash has completed portions as Ravana. However, Sunny Deol, set to play Lord Hanuman, and Kunal Kapoor, cast as Lord Indra, are yet to begin. A post shared by Namit Malhotra (@iamnamitmalhotra) Ramayan is being helmed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra.
Currently in production, Ramayan commenced shooting in Mumbai in 2024. Envisioned as a franchise, the first installment of Ramayana is being crafted with an estimated budget of Rs. 835 crore.
According to Bollywood Hungama, the filmmakers are sparing no effort to create a “global spectacle.” The initial chapter will center on Lord Ram’s youth, his marriage to Sita, their exile, and Sita’s abduction. Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi began filming their roles in April 2024, with several leaked images of the lead actors surfacing on social media.
As excitement grows for Ramayan, the team is crafting a formidable ensemble. While Jaideep Ahlawat’s absence is a setback, anticipation remains high for who will ultimately embody the complex role of Vibhishan in this epic retelling.
