Diamond unit manager flees with jewels worth 12.5L

Surat: A manager at a Surat diamond company was booked for breach of trust after he allegedly stole 130 diamonds, worth Rs 12.50 lakh, from the company. Bhavesh Dhaskata was working as a bottom manager and allegedly fled with 130 diamonds weighing 13.

94 carats. Mahidharpura police have formed teams to find Dhaskata. According to a complaint filed by Upesh Boda, a partner in Arav Diamonds , Dhaskata was employed by the company on April 1 at a salary of Rs 30,000 salary and was given the responsibility of bottom manager.



He would receive diamonds from Boda and get them polished by artisans in the unit. After completing the bottom of the diamond, he would hand it over to another department. On Oct 23, Dhaskata did not come to the office at reporting time.

An artisan, Dipak, found no diamonds in the packet had Dhaskata handed over to him the day earlier. When Boda learned about it, he went to the firm and checked the packets Dhaskata had kept. He found 130 packets empty with 130 diamonds missing.

The missing stones weighed 13.94 carats and were worth Rs 12.50 lakh.

Boda tried to contact Dhaskata to retrieve the diamonds but could not. He then filed a complaint with Mahidharpura police on Wednesday..
