Surat: In a case of financial fraud , a prominent businessman and owner of Irish Grown Diamonds and Rainbow Gems fell victim to a brazen act of deception. Kalpesh Monpara has alleged that he was cheated out of a staggering Rs 3.94 crore by Panchabhai Shigad, the proprietor of Haniya Gems.
The saga of deceit unfolded during June and July 2023, when Shigad engaged in a series of transactions with Monpara, purchasing lab-grown diamonds from his firms. Initially, Shigad issued seven bank cheques as payment, but all of them bounced. Shigad resorted to empty promises, assuring Monpara that he would make the outstanding payments.
However, Shigad subsequently stopped answering Monpara's calls. In a desperate attempt to evade legal consequences, Shigad tried to manipulate the situation by proposing to convert the criminal case into a civil matter. The case has sent shockwaves through the business community.
