In a significant enforcement action, the General Directorate of Labour in Dhofar Governorate, in partnership with the local police command, has launched a comprehensive inspection campaign aimed at tackling the issue of illegal street vending and unauthorised selling by non-Omani workers in the central region of Salalah. The operation, which targeted areas known for informal market activities, resulted in the arrest of 150 individuals found to be engaged in street vending and random selling without proper authorisation. The crackdown is part of a broader effort to regulate and control informal economic activities that often bypass official channels and labour regulations.

Authorities have stated that legal measures are being taken against those apprehended, with the aim of ensuring compliance with local labour laws and maintaining orderly commercial practices. The campaign reflects a concerted effort to address issues related to undocumented employment and unregulated business activities that impact both local economies and legal enterprises. Officials from the General Directorate of Labour have emphasised the importance of adhering to established regulations and the need for all workers and vendors to operate within the legal framework.

The campaign is expected to continue as part of ongoing efforts to enforce compliance and address the challenges posed by informal market activities. Residents and business owners in Salalah have been urged to cooperate with authorities and report any similar activities to ensure the effective regulation of the local market. This initiative highlights the governorate’s commitment to maintaining orderly and legal economic practices in the region.
