Madras High Court grants Nayanthara an extension until January 8 in the legal dispute with Dhanush. Catch all the updates on the heated case involving the 'Lady Superstar'! New Delhi: Lady Superstar Nayanthara and Tamil actor Dhanush’s feud has taken a new legal turn. The Madras High Court has granted time till Jan 8 for the actress to respond to a case filed by Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films to restrain her from using even BTS footage of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale.
The case was scheduled for Thursday (December 12). For the unversed, Wunderbar Films sought an interim request to stop Nayanthara, her husband-director Vignesh Shivan, and Netflix from using visuals related to the 2015 hit Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in the docu-drama Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale. The docu-drama premiered on Netflix on November 18 and reportedly features the film’s behind-the-scenes (BTS) footage.
Dhanush vs Nayanthara According to Wunderbar’s legal counsel, Gautam S. Raman and Maithreyi Canthaswamy Sharma, Nayanthara signed an artist agreement in 2014, granting the production house perpetual rights over her performance, likeness, and voice for Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. This agreement allegedly covers all footage captured during the movie’s production, including BTS content.
The production house claims Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan used this footage in their Netflix documentary without authorisation, violating copyright laws. Wunderbar has also accused the duo of ignoring copyright clauses and is pushing for a legal ultimatum. Nayanthara’s open letter to Dhanush Days before the docu-drama’s release, Nayanthara posted an open letter on her X handle, addressing the controversy.
She revealed that she had sought a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from Wunderbar Films two years ago to use visuals and songs from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, citing the film’s personal significance—it’s where her romance with Vignesh Shivan began. In her letter, Nayanthara accused the Tamil superstar of delaying the NOC due to personal grudges. She also claimed that the BTS visuals used in the documentary—just three seconds, according to her—were filmed using personal devices.
the Jawan actress further alleged that Dhanush’s legal notice demanding Rs 10 crore in damages was excessive and unwarranted. Click for more latest Celebrity news . Also get top headlines and latest news from India and around the world at News9.
