MOORHEAD — The Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Rebels are heading to a section championship game. The top-seeded Rebels topped the No. 5 Barnesville Trojans 3-2 in a tightly contested match that came down to the wire in the Minnesota Section 8 Class 2-A volleyball semifinals on Tuesday night at Moorhead High School.

DGF won 25-20, 23-25, 14-25, 25-18 and 15-12. Rebels junior outside hitter Danielle Boyd had quite the performance, with 20 kills, 24 digs and one ace serve. “I was working well with both my setters,” Boyd said.

“We were just finding open spots and moving it around well.” As Boyd continued to increase her stat line late in the game, “MVP” chants echoed throughout the Moorhead gymnasium from an active Rebels student section. “(Boyd) is a great player,” said DGF head coach Tessa Tysver, who celebrated her 300th win.

“She hustles every single possession and can put the ball away. We rely on her a lot.” After trading points to open the fifth set, the Rebels went on a six-point run to lead 12-5.

The Trojans had four consecutive blocks in a six-point rally to cut the lead to 14-12, but DGF answered again to close out the contest. Barnesville battled the Rebels in every set. DGF led 18-8 in the first set and the Trojans stormed back cutting the lead to four points Barnesville took the next two sets to lead 3-1 in the match.

The Rebels flipped the script midway through the fourth set with a Boyd kill to lead 12-11. It was the first DGF lead since opening the third set 2-0. The Rebels went on five-point run and capped off the set with a kill from junior right hitter Carly Tweeton.

“We just relaxed a little bit,” Tysver said. “We were playing too tight in games two and three ..

. and got back into our rhythm of swinging and sticking our passes.” DGF’s right hitter Chloe Fuller totaled 10 kills, nine digs and two blocks.

Costello had 17 digs and two aces. Senior middle hitter Abby John led Barnesville with 15 kills, three ace serves and 12 digs. Lexi Hoeft had 13 kills and Macie Pauna had 14 digs.

Emmalyn Bergman ended with 17 assists and Sophie Frederick had 11 assists. Allison Axness blocked multiple shots. “No matter who is on the other side, (this team goes) in and they compete,” said Barnesville head coach Megan Askegaard.

“They play hard start to finish, especially when their backs are against the wall.” The Trojans graduate nine seniors in the spring. Askegaard noted the group has been a great example for the younger class and has helped “keep the Trojan tradition alive.

” The Rebels advance to the section championship matchup against either No. 2 Hawley or No. 3 Wadena-Deer Creek at 7 p.

m. Saturday, Nov 2 at a neutral site to be determined. “We need to stay up and bring the energy we brought in those last few sets,” Boyd said.
