Paramount + have unveiled the trailer for Dexter: Original Sin, the prequel of the hit show that will follow the serial killer in his teenage years. Taking place 15 years before the original series was set, the next installment will see Irish actor Patrick Gibson take on the role of Dexter Morgan in 1991, as he juggles his penchant for killing with a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department. College corridors, swarms of detectives and sharp instruments, “They say it takes a village to raise a killer,” says the voice of Michael C Hall in the 30-second teaser, which we’ve popped at the top of the page.
Set to premiere internationally on Friday December 13 on Paramount+, Hall will return to the prequel as the inner voice of the student serial killer, having played Dexter for eight seasons from 2006 to 2013. The Golden Globe-winning actor will be joined by Christian Slater, who played the murderous JD in cult-favourite Heathers, who will appear as Dexter’s adoptive father Harry Morgan, and Buffy The Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar as Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) chief. A pretty impressive village indeed.
The latest from Showtime Studios, Dexter: Original Sin will provide a closer look at the serial killer’s early years and relationship with his Miami police officer father, as he teaches him how to manage those pesky homicidal tendencies. Under Slater’s guidance, a young Dexter learns to adopt the ‘Harry Code’, a way of helping him target his bloodthristy urges towards people that deserve to be eliminated from society while avoiding getting on the wrong side of the law. Told across 10 episodes, producer of the Emmy-nominated original series, Clyde Phillips, has returned as showrunner and executive producer for this most recent installment of the franchise.
The latest in the American crime drama comes after Dexter: New Blood which premiered in 2021, which saw the vigilante-hunter attempt to leave behind his double life. Dexter: Original Sin will be released on Paramount+ on December 13.
