Former Tonbridge and Maidstone footballer Devonte Aransibia has died at the age of 26. Tributes have been paid to the midfielder, who started his career at Norwich City, and also played for Welling. “I can’t believe it.
RIP Devonte,” said ex-Angels midfielder Joe Boachie. “Rest in peace Dev,” wrote former Tonbridge team-mate Jordan Greenidge. “So, so sad to hear this news,” said commentator Matt Eastley.
“I enjoyed watching Devonte at several clubs.” A gofundme page has been set up to support Aransibia’s family. A statement on the page said: “It is with heavy hearts that we come together to honour the life of Dev, a loving partner, devoted father, cherished son, and dear friend to so many.
“Dev was the embodiment of kindness and compassion, always ready with a warm smile. “His infectious laughter and generous spirit brightened every room he entered, leaving a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him. “Beyond his loving nature, Dev was a talented footballer whose passion and drive propelled him to great success on the pitch.
” Aransibia joined Norwich as a scholar, signing his first professional contract in 2017. He moved into non-league football with spells at Billericay, Potters Bar and Royston, followed by moves to Chelmsford and Welling. He joined Tonbridge from the Wings in November 2022, scoring 12 goals from midfield, before returning to full-time football with Maidstone.
Aransibia starred in the Stones’ FA Cup first-round win at Chesham last season but was soon on the move with loan spells at Braintree and back at Tonbridge. He joined Chesham last summer after being released by the Stones. To donate to the fundraising page, click here.
