Shahid Kapoor’s latest offering, the cop drama Deva , has not managed to set the box office on fire, collecting under Rs. 10 crore on its opening day. According to reports, the film opened to “dismal” numbers in mass circuits despite having a “decent occupancy” in urban areas.
Deva , directed by Rosshan Andrews, stars Shahid Kapoor alongside Pooja Hegde. It is a remake of the 2013 Malayalam hit Mumbai Police, but with an altered climax. Despite the star power and the promise of an engaging narrative, the film’s performance has been underwhelming.

. Lengthy first half, uneven, slow-paced second half..
. Inconsistent writing is a flaw..
. Shahid Kapoor is outstanding, among his best works.” The opening day collection for Deva stood at a mere Rs.
5.5 crore. This figure is significantly lower than the debut earnings of Varun Dhawan’s action film Baby John , which managed to rake in Rs.
11.25 crore on its first day, despite later turning out to be a box office disaster. A post shared by Shahid Kapoor (@shahidkapoor) The occupancy for Deva was reported at 10.
24 percent overall, with the night shows performing slightly better at 16.15 percent. The initial response suggests that Deva might see some improvement over the weekend, but it certainly didn’t start with the bang one might expect from a film of its genre.
The film also features a strong supporting cast including Pavail Gulati, Pravesh Rana, Kubbra Sait, Girish Kulkarni, Manish Wadhwa, and Gaurav More in key roles. Deva hit the screens on 31 January, in Hindi, hoping to capitalize on Shahid Kapoor’s fanbase and the success of previous cop dramas. But, with this low opening, it will need a strong word-of-mouth to recover its standing at the box office.
Only time will tell if Deva can pick up pace in the coming days. See Also: Deva X Review: Netizens Hail Shahid Kapoor’s ‘Seeti Maar Performance’ In The Rosshan Andrrews Directorial.
