Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has vowed to fix a fresh date for the official installation of Alhaji Munir Sanusi as the new district head of Bichi emirate. The new chief, who doubles as Wamba of Kano, was appointed to replace Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero, a younger brother of Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, who were both dethroned by the Kano State government. However, the coronation was interrupted by security agents, who barricaded the Kano and Bichi palaces, restricting Sanusi from completing the exercise.

Addressing the Bichi community, who were on traditional homage yesterday, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) worried that he finds it difficult to understand the rationale behind the revolt against the appointment of the new district head. He, however, reassured that the new Bichi chief would be inaugurated amid any security threat, insisting: “There is no way a son of the Khalifa will be taken to them as the Wambai, and they will turn their backs on him.” The monarch added: “Whenever you see a people trying to break the peace being enjoyed by the public, you don’t become part of it.

Rather, you will exercise patience because that time will come and pass. “I know the people of Bichi are peace-loving. Bichi is also a land of educated people with good religious ideology.

More so, with the way the people of Bichi revere the Khalifa and Wambai Abubakar, there is no way a son of the Khalifa will be taken to them as the Wambai, and they will turn their backs on him. “What happened on Friday is only a distraction. We still don’t know why it happened and those involved have not told us the reason why they did it.

However, this will not stop anything. I assure you that another day will be fixed and your district head will surely be brought to you and everything will take place peacefully.” Earlier, the leader of the delegation and Chairman of Bichi Local Council, Hamza Sule Maifata, told the emir they were at the palace in solidarity over the appointment of the new district head.

He explained that all stakeholders, including the Imams, village heads, ward heads, and youths, were willing to receive the new district head..
