Marc Cherry, the creator of Desperate Housewives , has admitted to feeling a pang of jealousy towards the success of the Real Housewives franchise. The primetime soap opera he created catapulted Eva Longoria to fame and won numerous accolades including a Golden Globe and an Emmy Award during its eight-season run. Cherry's show paved the way for Bravo to build an empire with the Real Housewives franchise.
Two years after Desperate Housewives hit the screens, Bravo launched The Real Housewives of Orange County. The reality TV series premiered in March 2006 and has since expanded into a franchise with 11 installments. In a conversation with People , Cherry confessed his envy towards the enduring success of the reality TV series.
Josh Waring's cause of death revealed after Real Housewives star's son died aged 35 RHOBH's Erika Jayne's ex Tom Giradi's net worth after he's found guilty of embezzling $15 million "I envy the fact that they've kept that franchise going," he said. "I certainly envy the good folks who produce that show because it's a train that keeps on chugging. So good for them.
" He believes their success lies in their ability to stay relevant with new shows, reports the Express US . When asked about his feelings regarding their success during the run of his own show, he shrugged off any resentment. "They didn't crib my name, to be fair to them," he stated.
"They just used the word. Our show came out, and they capitalized on that. And you know what? That's the capitalistic system.
" Cherry acknowledged that the two shows are often compared or mistakenly linked with each other. The producer recounted a conversation with actor Tommy Tune, who at one point became "confused" and inquired: "'Oh, so do you produce all the various cities?'" Initially perplexed by the question, he eventually grasped that the actor mistakenly believed he was behind the Bravo franchise. Despite the network's success, he harbors no regrets over his handling of Desperate Housewives and its conclusion.
Nevertheless, he acknowledged considering a reboot, but only under "really good artistic" conditions. "If I ever dipped my toe in those waters again, I would want to make sure I had a really good reason," he stated in conclusion.
