Much like every week, Desmond Howard made some picks on Saturday at the "College GameDay" desk in Athens, Georgia. However, his comments regarding one game drew some backlash on X. At the end of the show, the crew made picks for games such as the Florida Gators vs.
the No. 22 LSU Tigers, the No. 7 Tennessee Volunteers vs.
the No. 12 Georgia Bulldogs, the No. 23 Missouri Tigers vs.
the No. 21 South Carolina Gamecocks, and the No. 3 Texas Longhorns vs.
the Arkansas Razorbacks. Howard, Kirk Herbstreit, Pat McAfee, Nick Saban, Lee Corso, and celebrity guest picker Cody Rhodes also picked the winner of a Big 12 contest with massive significance for the conference title game between the Arizona State Sun Devils and No. 16 Kansas State Wildcats.
Arizona State and Kansas State were 7-2 heading into Saturday, with the Wildcats in fourth place in the Big 12 standings and the Sun Devils in fifth. The Iowa State Cyclones and Colorado Buffaloes were also 7-2 and placed ahead of Arizona State and Kansas State in the standings, adding to the game's significance. However, Howard was confused about why the crew was making picks for the game.
He saw that the crew would make picks for it on the rundown but figured it was a mistake. Rob Gray-Imagn Images “I saw that on the rundown,” Howard said. “I was like, ‘Why are we picking this game?’ I thought it was a mistake.

com/mRdZY2hNag Fans were not pleased with Howard's comments and told him about it on X. One fan longed for the days before Howard joined with Chris Fowler, Herbstreit, and Corso on the desk. "Desmond Howard just asked why they are picking the K-State/Arizona St game on Gameday," they said .
"Two 7-2 teams. Game is on ESPN. One of better games on paper today.
This show used to be so good when it was just Fowler, Corso, and Herbstreit. Just an embarrassment nowadays." Others sarcastically wanted Howard to talk about his alma mater, the Michigan Wolverines, who are 5-5.
Howard played receiver and was a return specialist at Michigan, winning the Heisman in 1991. "Why are we picking an ESPN game featuring two 7-2 teams? they said . "No, yeah, let's talk about 5-5 Michigan, Desmond Howard.
You aren't even TRYING to be professional." Some fans questioned what analysis Howard added to the show. "What does Desmond Howard add to the show?" another fan quipped.
Others were frustrated seeing Howard on the show. "I can't stand Desmond Howard." one fan said.
Kansas State and Arizona State kickoff at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
"Bad look, Desmond Howard and College GameDay." one fan said. "As a stakeholder of the college football landscape, I would think you would be an advocate for all student-athletes, not just the ones in the B1G and SEC.
PS: Both these teams would beat Michigan." Bad look @DesmondHoward & @CollegeGameDay As a stakeholder of the college football landscape, I would think you would be an advocate for all student athletes, not just the one’s in the B1G and SEC. PS: Both these teams would beat Michigan https://t.
