Design Museum Japan Exhibition 2025 – Collecting and Connecting Japanese Design May 15, 2025 at 10:00am ~ May 25, 2025 at 6:00pm The Design Museum Japan Exhibition 2025 reimagines NHK’s broadcast project into a physical experience, highlighting “design treasures”—everyday objects and local practices seen through a design lens. This year’s edition features eight creators who explored Japan’s regions in search of design narratives rooted in culture, history and place. The aim is to link these treasures together into a collective “Design Museum” that stretches across the country.

Featured Creators & Design Treasures Atsuki Kikuchi – Everyday enamel goods , Tochigi Aiko Miyanaga – The Hiragino fonts , Kyoto Yoshiharu Tsukamoto – Ice Chambers , Nara Hisae Igarashi – Magic Bottles , Osaka Seiichi Hishikawa – Bumper Catch Banners , Tottori Naoto Fukasawa – Sekishu Tiles , Shimane Yoshiyuki Miyamae – 300-Year-Old Street Market , Kochi Taku Sato – Snacks and Instinctive Design , Miyazaki Exhibition Concept The exhibition was designed to reflect “Archaeology of the Future,” a concept developed by Tsuyoshi Tane , the architect behind the space. It honors memory, place and continuity—values deeply connected to the objects on display. This collaborative presentation invites visitors to travel alongside the featured creators and discover how everyday life in Japan becomes design and how design becomes a way of life.
