Los Angeles Lakers legends Derek Fisher and James Worthy speak on an underrated quality of Luka Doncic. After Luka Doncic was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers , many fans expected the former Dallas Mavericks star to reach incredible form right off the bat. However, considering he was coming back from an injury and how he was traded to the Lakers , it was no surprise that Doncic took his time to get back in form.
Now, with the 2025 playoffs in sight, Doncic has finally regained his touch , which he flaunted during the Lakers’ recent blowout win over the Houston Rockets . Derek Fisher and James Worthy on Luka Doncic Considering the postseason is almost here, head coach JJ Redick ensured that Doncic and the rest of the stars didn’t play unnecessarily extra minutes vs the Rockets. 31 minutes were enough for Doncic to finish the game with 39 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists against the Rockets.
After the game, former Lakers guard Derek Fisher pointed out a ‘contagious’ quality about Doncic. “It’s impressive and contagious that he gets off to good starts as often as he does,” Fisher said. Fisher’s co-host James Worthy also had excellent things to say about the Don: “He’s very confident, he just looks like the type of player that he doesn’t think anyone can stop him from doing what he wants to do.
“I know there’s some great defenses out there, but on a regular basis he seems to get where he wants to go, that’s a lot of confidence right there and it is contagious when you have somebody on the floor leading like that, balls going through the hoop. “It gives the team a big boost and it’s nice to see he can control that early in the game when they need it.” Fisher on JJ Redick’s rookie season Seeing Doncic find his touch is great and coach Redick deserves a lot of credit for it.
With the Purple and Gold officially clinching the third seed in the West, Fisher had some praise for the rookie head coach. “I don’t think anybody would have picked the LA Lakers to finish third when the season started,” Fisher said of Redick. He added: “He’s done a great job to get the group to this point, there are bigger things ahead but they deserve to embrace and celebrate what they have accomplished.
