PERSONNEL of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-Zamboanga Peninsula have released a Philippine Serpent Eagle in an eco-tourism park in the province of Zamboanga del Norte. In a statement, the DENR-Zamboanga Peninsula, said the eagle was returned to its natural habitat after the bird was assessed to be in good health and fit for release. The DENR said the eagle was freed last week at the Cogon Eco-Tourism Park in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte.
The release was led by Supervising Environment Management Service Renerio Acama together with two other staffs of the Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office and personnel of the Cogon Eco-Tourism Park. The DENR said the eagle was caught at a warehouse in Barangay Minaog, Dipolog City, by an employee, who then surrendered it to PENRO-Zamboanga del Norte on December 5, 2024. Upon its turnover, the eagle underwent a thorough check-up at the City Veterinarian Office in Dipolog, where it was assessed to be in good health and was sent back to its natural habitat.
Officials of PENRO-Zamboanga del Norte expressed their gratitude to the vigilant citizen who acted responsibly, as well as to the dedicated professionals who ensured the eagle's safe return to the wild. They said the release is an important step in promoting ecological balance and raising awareness about the need to preserve wildlife, highlighting the dedication of environmental advocates to conservation.
