Exhibit 2025: The Pitiful Plight of Teachers in India. As if demeaning the profession with the worst package possible (with oft delayed salaries) wasn’t enough, teachers across India (barring a few exceptions) are treated as plantation slaves. A teacher in Odisha’s Balangir district was forced to join duty after being denied sick leave.

The gentleman reported to work with the saline drip in his veins. Per reports, Prakash Bhoi, a math teacher at the Bhainsa Adarsha Vidyalaya, attended the funeral rites of his grandfather on March 6. He fell sick thereafter.

However, his principal-in-charge, Bijayalaxmi Pradhan, denied leave and rather asked the teacher to report to the District Education Officer (DEO)-cum-District Project Coordinator (DPC) in Balangir. Speaking with the local media outlet, the teacher alleged that he had to leave despite not being physically and mentally well. Following Bijayalaxmi’s orders, Mr Bhoi reported to the DPC office in Balangir but his condition aggravated further.

While he asked permission to visit the hospital, however, the principal-in-charge directed him to show up at the school by 2 pm for verification. However, since the medicine did not finish on time, the math teacher went to school with the drip still intact.

His colleagues at school immediately rushed Mr. Bhoi to the hospital, seeing his condition. The Patnagarh Block Education Officer (BEO), Prasad Majhi, has assured a probe into the incident.
