Bengaluru: A 24-year-old youth suffering from memory loss, allegedly assaulted Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) staff at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) and was arrested Tuesday morning. The accused, Sanjay (name changed) tried to enter the Terminal 1 through departure gate no. 6 and was stopped as he had no ticket.
During investigation, police found that Sanjay suffers from memory loss and mental illness and is undergoing treatment for the same. According to the complaint filed by Dinesh Kumar, SI/Exe, CISF, CISF constable (general duty) Kuldeep stopped Sanjay at the gate and asked him to show his flight ticket and identity proof. "What is a ticket? I don't have any ticket, I want to get into the airport," Sanjay was quoted as saying.
Sanjay remained adamant and tried to barge into the terminal. Alerted by Kuldeep, Kumar rushed to the spot. Kumar claims that Sanjay abused him, and when they tried to clear the way, he caught Kumar by his shirt collar and assaulted him.
Kumar and Kuldeep detained Sanjay and later, handed him to KIA police. A senior police officer said with a lot of difficulty, they obtained contact details of Sanjay's parents. "They told us Sanjay had ran away from the house in Ranchi, Jharkhand, two months ago and they were not aware that he was in Bengaluru," he said.
"The parents informed us that Sanjay was undergoing treatment for his mental illness and memory loss. He is said to behave abnormally on missing his medication. Sanjay claims that he doesn't remember why he came to the airport or how he came to Bengaluru.
He appears to have worked in a few places in the city, including hotels and quit the jobs, but he doesn't remember where he lived here," the officer said. "His parents are coming with his medical records of his illness. A case has been registered under BNS sections 132 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace)," the officer said.
