A "day and night deli" is allowed alcoholic drinks after the approval of an alcohol licence by Bolton Council . Andy Partington and Jonny Eckersley applied for the alcohol licence for the business on Chorley Old Road . The "day and night deli", as it is described by the business partners, is on the site of what was barber shop Common Barber and coffee shop Common & Coffee.

The barber shop is now on the other side of the road and the coffee shop is now one part of the business which Mr Partington and Mr Eckersley are calling Earl's. They were at the town hall the day before the official opening on Friday (December 20) to answer to a committee of councillors Debbie Newall, David Grant and Maureen Flitcroft as well as a number of residents from the road. Mr Eckersley said: "We call it a day and night deli as it is in two parts. At the front of the property there will be a coffee shop and at the rear of the property there will be different things which is where the alcohol licence comes in." Residents said they were worried about the application for an alcohol licence which also allows the business the ability to open until 10pm every day of the week and the ability to play music up until the same time.

It is understood the intention is only to open until 10pm on Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays. Mr Eckersley said he would do better at communicating with the community after the opening after an acknowledgement he had not done so ahead of the opening. One resident, Emma Twidale, said: "It is so worrying to me I do not want to live there anymore. I was happy for 15 years but I do not want to live there anymore." One resident, Jane-Marie Ramsdale, said: "Nobody in the room apart from you two [Mr Partington and Mr Eckersley] would want this a few feet away from where they live.

" Mr Partington and Mr Eckersley's application for an alcohol licence was approved by Cllr Newall, Cllr Grant and Cllr Flitcroft. Earl's officially opened on Friday (December 20). For information on Earls go to earlsdeli.
