Once a commuter selects the option, the app will suggest the nearest metro stations and automatically book a bike or auto for pickup from the starting point. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is launching a new feature to make commuting easier for passengers. This initiative will allow commuters to book an auto-rickshaw or bike for pickup and drop-off services directly through the Delhi Metro’s mobile app, Momentum 2.
0. This will help address first and last-mile connectivity problems. Delhi Metro has partnered with Rapido to provide this service.
When a commuter selects the door-to-door service, the app will recommend the nearest metro stations and the best mode of transport-bike or auto. A bike or auto will be booked for pickup from the starting point to the nearest metro station. Before reaching the destination metro station, another ride will be arranged to complete the journey.
If a passenger’s starting or ending point is within walking distance of a metro station, the app will not suggest a booking. “The app will book a ride to take the passenger from their starting point to the nearest metro station. Just before they reach their destination metro station, another ride will be arranged to complete their journey," a DMRC official told ThePrint.
The app will calculate estimated travel time and book the final leg of the journey accordingly. However, it will not factor in road congestion or metro delays. Importantly, commuters’ movements will not be tracked during the booking process.
With daily ridership reaching 71 lakh (7.1 million) in February 2024, this initiative is expected to boost Metro usage further..
