New Delhi: PWD minister Parvesh Verma on Saturday said Delhi govt was working on a mission mode to ensure no waterlogging occurred this monsoon. After inspecting a drain in south Delhi's Sriniwaspuri, Verma instructed officials to clean the drain and resolve the long-standing problem of waterlogging in the area. He said the main drain in Sriniwaspuri was blocked for years, which caused severe waterlogging of up to four feet in the locality.

"The previous govt and the local MLA (former CM) did absolutely nothing. But we don't look at whose constituency it is — our aim is to work in every part of Delhi," Verma said. Sriniwaspuri is part of Kalkaji assembly constituency, which is represented by former CM Atishi.

The minister said a work order for desilting the drain would be issued within a week, and the cleaning work would commence soon. "Officials have been directed to record videos of the cleaning process to ensure actual on-ground progress," he added. While MCD will desilt the drain, Delhi Jal Board will clear the construction and demolition waste and debris from ducts.

Officials said directions were issued to raise the boundary wall and install coil fencing over the culvert to prevent encroachments. The minister also assured people of solving the water crisis in the area and added that GPS, sensors and flow meters would be installed on tankers for real-time monitoring. A group of women raised slogans against Verma and BJP govt during the visit, claiming long power cuts in the area for the last one and a half months.
